After 10 years of a fertility journey that spanned the globe, we recently discovered that my partner has a genetic disorder which sadly meant pregnancy would be impossible. I have dear friends who have co-parented a child since birth with another couple and have loved seeing an alternative family model that seems so grounded in abundance rather than scarcity. I am a university professor working in the creative industries and have had many children in my life in meaningful ways. At this stage of life, I want to have my own child but I want to share this experience in a way that looks different from a traditional, oft-claustrophobic nuclear family.
