Lord Winston and IVF costs
Fertility expert Lord Winston has accused private IVF clinics of "massive profiteering".He said that NHS primary care trusts are withdrwaing IVF treatment on the NHS on the basis of inflated charges made by private IVF clinics.
He stated that the NHS is wrongly taking these figures as a way to cost IVF treatment. He went on to say that a centralised NHS IVF service would greatly reduce these costs and allow more people to have IVF treatment on the NHS.
He has stated that some clinics are charging double what a course of IVF treatment should actually cost.
Lord Winston ended by saying that infertilty causes serious emotional pain to those who cannot have children and that helping them should be seen as a proper use of funds.
