Co-Parenting by Sperm Donor
If you want the sperm donor to have a significant involvement in bringing up any child, we recommend you also select the additional option of Co-Parenting (I am Female). This will let any sperm donor know you are looking for a co-parent. Co-parenting is an option considered by many gay men.


Infertile Couples Looking for a Sperm Donor
If a couple is unable to have children because of a male infertility issue, PollenTree can be an easy way to find a suitable sperm donor for artificial insemination. Select Sperm Donation (I am a recipient) on the Join page. The couple and sperm donor will need to discuss the degree of involvement (if any) that the sperm donor will have with any child. Another consideration is the child's ability to contact the donor when they are older.

For some people, a clinic is the only way to go. The advantage of a clinic is that they may have a donor suitable for you. The downsides of a clinic are the cost and the possibility of waiting lists for the right donor. Many people who come to PollenTree have previously tried using a clinic and have found the costs too high and the donations unsuccessful. The cost of a single donation is relatively low. However, it can take multiple donations until a successful pregnancy is achieved - this cost soon mounts up. However, if you are unsure of the best way to proceed and you have the funds, we recommend finding a clinic near you. On PollenTree, we do not allow sperm donors to charge; the exception is travel expenses, and even these must be reasonable. So, there is a clear cost difference.


Alternatives to PollenTree
Like most things, there is always an alternative - PollenTree is no different. There are both free and paid-for alternatives to PollenTree. However, the important difference is that we moderate who joins PollenTree and how members act on PollenTree. This takes both time and money. That is the reason we charge a subscription fee. Asking members to pay encourages only those who are serious, plus paying ensures a degree of accountability. In addition, we are happy for potential problem members to join other sites with no or less moderation and no code of conduct - this makes PollenTree better for those members who pass our moderation process.
